From many of the years, it was said by the nutritionist that you are what you eat. Now, it is one step ahead and according to the new research the sperm quality also dependent on your diet quality. This research observations was presented in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine annual meeting in Orlando and clearly shown that how quality of sperm is directly related to the diet quality. It is noticed that diet having high amount of red meat or processed gain can damage the quality of sperm and moreover trans fats is also responsible for reducing the quantity of sperm in semen. In this regard, generally you can say that nutrition is too much beneficial for the quality of semen, said by Audrey J. Gaskins. He is a leading author in research of this field. Gaskins added that healthy diet consist on fish, fresh fruit, whole grains, legumes and vegetables which helps to lift the semen quality as well as sperm motility. It is mandatory that sperm move around and do not sit still otherwise it can lessen the chance of pregnancy. Gaskin recruited 188 men for this observation from age 18 to 22 in Rochester. All the men have to fill one questioner which had some questions about their diet. Researcher want to know that which type of the food participants like most either “Western” like red meat, refined carbs, sweets and energy drinks or “Prudent” like fish dishes, fruit, vegetables, legumes and whole grains. After that a test was conducted of their semen analysis for checking the concentration, sperm movement and shape of the sperm. Shape and concentration of the sperms was not effects due to the change of diet style but difference in sperm motility was observed. It was due to the western diet style in which race of men, body mass index (BMI) and history of smoking played a vital role. Researcher said that there is too much room in this research to find the exactly nutrition which actually effect sperm. This study is very specific and even we cannot predict about men who suffer from sperm problem due to something else. It explained only the association of the diet with quality of sperm. Another research which was led by Dr. Jorge Chavarro, an assistant professor of nutrition and epidemiology explained that sperm very serious effect if a men use a diet rich in Trans fats. In this way, sperm went up when presence of Trans fats increased and sperm concentration level decreased. This study was done on about 100 men and all of them passed through a semen analysis with respect to their nutrition. Even more different factors like age, history of smoking, body mass index and calories consumption was observed and it is noticed that Trans fatty acid does not affect the sperm concentration but it can effect on same basis at individual level. We can conclude that style of the diet can affect the men’s sperm quality.
